Good news for all climate friends today. The US Supreme Court has declined to hear a challenge against a law suit by Honolulu against oil companies because of the damage caused to climate by the use of fossile fuels and because of the willful repression of knowledge about these damages. The latter had argued that local officials were trying to hijack policy-making and regulate global emissions by court order. Obviously, this is not considered as illegitimate as they would have it.

Other law suits are pending, one by the state of California, several others by counties and cities in California. This has gained new actuality in the face of the apocalyptic fires and the enormous damages incurred in Southern California. All these lawsuits would have been halted if the Supreme Court had accepted to hear about the above-mentioned law suit.

Although this decision concerns the US if reverberates around the world. The more courts hold such law suits legitimate the better the chances of other law suits in other parts of the world. In so far it is good news for all of us.”
