On January 26 this year, we published a news item on Country Overshoot Day and we presented Grandparents for Climate buttons to give it attention.
Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year. We maintain this deficit by liquidating stocks of ecological resources and accumulating waste, primarily carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
The Global Footprint Network published the date for this year last June4th.
If you are active in a local or national climate organisation, you could mark the 30th of July by pointing at the difference with your Country’s Overshoot Day.
Although the Earth Overshoot Day 2026 is a few days later than in 2025, it is alarming to see the evolution of that day over the years.
