The “Climate Alarmists” is a citizens’ initiative highlighting the climate emergency. See here our News item about it when it was launched.

Initiated by Grootouders voor het Klimaat, the Grands-Parents pour le Climat have joined forces to walk through the centre of Brussels each weekday for “as long as it takes” to get the regional and federal politicians to take more measures in favour of the climate.

It’s great having two people from our Flemish association with two from the French-speaking group. We don’t often have the opportunity of working together.

Each weekday from 11am to 1pm four grandparents walk through the city centre with two old-fashioned prams, which are hard work on the Brussels cobbles!

Despite increasingly urgent scientific warnings, greenhouse gas emissions remain far too high, and political decisions still fail to meet the scale of the challenge. It is urgent to bring climate disruption back to the centre of public debate and to reiterate the need to end our dependence on fossil fuels. “Climate Alarmists” is a visible, entirely peaceful citizen initiative.

Some of the messages we use: “System change, not climate change”, “Better Alarmist than Sorry”, “Old enough to know, young enough to care”.

We speak on behalf of a generation that has witnessed the world change, but also for the generations that will have to live with the consequences of the choices we make today. We are demonstrating our responsibility toward all grandchildren.

This calm, dignified, and determined presence will serve as a reminder, day after day, that the climate emergency does not vanish simply because we stop talking about it.
