Over the past year, the number of members of the Finnish Climate Grandparents has grown. We are pleased that new local groups have been established in four cities: Turku, Hämeenlinna, Joensuu and a group just started in Tampere.

Hämeenlinna

A book/author presentation at the Hämeenlinna library was a success: A popular and awarded Finnish author Juha Kauppinen was there to present his books about nature and environment.

The Hämeenlinna-group has also

  • made presentations at senior citizens events,
  • met with municipal environmental officials,
  • organized demonstrations to develop a local nature reserve,
  • written in local newspapers about environmental issues,
  • organized a nature-themed singing event,
  • participated in demonstrations in Helsinki.

Turku

Demonstrations are held at the Turku market square every other Friday.

The Turku-group also

  • participated in demonstrations with other organizations to protect a local natural site and this action has been successful,
  • established relationships with several local nature and climate groups,
  • organized cooperation with municipal councilors,
  • has written opinion pieces in newspapers,
  • monitors the achievement of the municipality’s carbon neutrality target.

Joensuu

In Joensuu the group had a demonstration together with the local degrowth movement at Christmas 2025.

The Joensuu-group has also

  • participated in various events,
  • met with members of the youth council,
  • written newspaper articles in favour of protecting the region’s forests,
  • plans to increase influence on the development of social and health care strategies in a more ecological direction.
