The Sunrise Project took the initiative to write an Open Letter to Pension Fund trustees and staff. It calls on these “to use the money and influence you wield on our behalf, to prevent drastic economic collapse, driven by food system shocks, water insecurity, heat stress, increased pandemic risk, and mass displacement as vast swathes of land become first uninsurable, and then uninhabitable.”

As European Grandparents for Climate (EGC) we wholeheartedly endorse this appeal and we signed the letter. Our EGC Co-Chairs Godela von Kirchbach and Eva Riemer say: “The future generations will pay for the retirement benefits of the older generations. Yet, the conditions they have to live and work under are seriously threatened by climate change. That is grossly unfair. Therefore climate and environmental protection are imperative.”

The letter has been delivered to delegates gathered at the World Pension Summit in The Hague today (6 November).
